Aidan Paul

Aidan has over 30 years’ experience of development and financing growth companies. He is an adviser to Herald Investment Management’s venture funds which invested in Antenova.

He founded and ran Vtesse Networks, a provider of high-capacity connectivity to large commercial and financial companies, including IBM, Lloyds Banking Group, Atos, Invesco, Digital Realty, Vodafone, Land Registry and Friends Life (now part of Aviva). Vtesse also refurbished and operated a Tier 3 data centre, customers of which included Arup, NBC, Ask.com, Claranet, GFI and Computacenter. Vtesse Networks was sold to Interoute in late 2014.

He currently provides advice on telecommunications infrastructure and energy solutions for data centres in addition to non-executive roles.

Earlier work included contributing to the standardisation of Ethernet in the US IEEE 802, and the starting of what became 3Com’s European operations. Whilst at PA Consulting he was seconded to SWIFT in Brussels on internet protocols, and was the principal contributor to “rewiring Belgium” a study for the Belgian Government on the convergence of cable TV and telecoms in the 80’s.

Whilst at Robert Fleming, the UK merchant bank, he worked on a range of financings and M&A including the $300m sale of Istel to AT&T, the $510m financing of the Orion satellite system which carried the Lottery traffic, and the privatisation and financing of Kingston Communications, now KCOM.

Aidan is a Chartered Engineer, a Chartered Management Accountant and is regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.
